On January 20, 2026, the PLAT4TERFOOD project published an article titled “A dataset mapping the geographical distribution of past and present collective farmers’ stores in France” in Data in Brief.
Collective farmers’ stores (CFS) represent a unique model characterized by collective governance managed exclusively by a group of farmers. These stores experienced significant growth in France during the decade from 2010 to 2020. However, the post-COVID period, marked by inflation, appears to have triggered a wave of closures.
In this study, the authors analyzed the expansion dynamics of this type of food retail business. The article cross-references data on CFS openings and closures with other spatial factors (demographic, economic, and public policy information). This combination of data allows for the exploration of research questions that shed light on the determinants influencing the establishment or disappearance of these stores in different regions.
