Opening of 2025 call: 23/07/2025 - Closing: 13/01/2026

Introduction

The prevention of chronic diseases and the adaptation of dietary behaviors are public health issues. To address these issues, it is necessary to gain a better understanding of 1) the links between diet, microbiomes, and human health, and 2) the interactions between consumer behavior, the information received by consumers, and food production models.

These complex issues are at the heart of the France 2030 research program “Food Systems, Microbiomes and Health” (PEPR SAMS), whose mission is to explore these interactions and propose levers for action to support the transition to more sustainable and health-promoting food systems.

The PEPR SAMS action program is structured around two main areas:

    • Pillar 1: Microbiomes and Health, which explores the relationships between food, microbial ecosystems, and human health
    • Pillar 2: Consumption and Sustainable Food Systems, which examines food choices, the determinants of consumer behavior, and production and distribution models
Framework of the call for projects

The call for projects ANR-SAMS is a continuation of the funding of 9 focus projects whose objective is to provide the scientific community with tools and platforms to facilitate their research work. It also follows on from the selection of 10 winning projects selected during the first call for projects ANR-SAMS.

This call aims to support projects lasting up to 4 years with funding ranging from €1.5 million to €1.75 million for the “Microbiomes and Health” pillar, from €800,000 to €1 million for the “Sustainable Consumption and Food” pillar, and from €1 million to €1.5 million for projects at the interface between the two pillars.

    • It is recommended that projects draw on the 9 focus projects as much as necessary and that they identify any projects that may be mobilized as partners or associate partners.
    • Projects must be based on multidisciplinary research consortia and include at least 3 different research structures, at least 2 of which must be located in different places.
    • Project leaders who were successful in the first call for projects ANR-SAMS, or in a junior chair project, will not be eligible to be project leaders in this second call.
    • It will only be possible to be the leader of one project in this call.
    • The coordinating institution must be a French higher education and research institution.

Eligible projects will be evaluated by an independent international evaluation committee appointed by the ANR, composed of experts in the disciplines covered by the call.

For more details on the context of the call, the thematic areas of the pillars, the process, and project eligibility, please refer to the scientific document for the call on the ANR website.
