
On February 7, 2026, the AddiMapping project published a review titled “Gut trialogue: How diet influences mucosal immune system-microbiota interactions” in Mucosal Immunology.
The relationship between the gut microbiota and the immune system plays a central role in fighting pathogens and chronic inflammatory diseases. Diet is a key mediator of this relationship.
In this review, the authors provide an overview of the effects of a wide range of dietary components that may influence the interaction between the microbiota and the immune system: macro- and micronutrients, phytochemicals, natural fibers, and food additives (sweeteners, metals, fibers, and emulsifiers). Their publication also explores new approaches aimed at better understanding the interaction between the microbiota, the immune system, and diet, and how these approaches can be harnessed to improve human health.
