On February 24, 2026, the SIM-IBD project published an article titled “Uncovering the Dynamics of Mucosa-Associated Microbiota in Postoperative Recurrence of Crohn’s Disease” in Gastroenterology.
In 50 to 75 percent of cases, patients with Crohn’s disease require bowel resection, but postoperative recurrences are common.
In this study, the authors analyzed the mucosa-associated microbiota at the time of bowel resection, as well as during endoscopic evaluation for recurrence.
The results highlight several waves of changes in the composition of the microbiota during disease recurrence.
